BELINGTON - A Pennsylvania woman was arrested Thursday in
connection with a Barbour County wreck that killed a man and an infant in October.
Janel M. Sturm, 28, from Baden, Pa., was charged with two counts of driving under the influence causing death and one count of child neglect resulting in death. She was lodged in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail at presstime on a $150,000 cash bond.
The charges stem from a single-vehicle crash Oct. 28 on US Route 250, north of Belington, according to a press release from Lt. Michael Baylous, a West Virginia State Police public information officer.
Sturm, the driver, allegedly lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway and rolled the vehicle on its top, according to the release. The crash resulted in the death of Travis W. Felton, 29, and seven-week-old Raele Marie Felton, who were both ejected from the vehicle, police said.
The press release said "further investigation revealed that Sturm had methamphetamine and other controlled substances in her system at the time of the accident."
The investigating officer, Cpl. S.P. Miller, of the Elkins detachment of the West Virginia State Police, could not be reached for comment Thursday.
Baylous said in an October press release that the accident was under investigation.
