James H. Stump, 89, of Buckhannon, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at his home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.
He was born March 12, 1925, in Webster Springs, a son of the late James Claude and Leva Hamrick Stump.
On Aug. 4, 1946, he married Malinda Jane "Linda" Hamrick, who preceded him in death on Nov. 29, 2005.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one grandson, John Michael Whitehair, Jr.; and two sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by three daughters, Brenda Cutright and husband, Terry, Rose Whitehair and husband, Mike, and Teresa Maxwell and husband, Dave, all of Buckhannon; one son, Micheal L. Stump and wife, Celesta, of Buckhannon; 10 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; one sister; two brothers and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Stump was a mining superintendent for Badger Coal Company. He was a member of Chapel Hill UMC, Frank B. Bartlett Post No. 7 American Legion, VFW Post No. 3663, Military Order of Purple Heart, Tennerton Lions Club, Franklin Lodge No. 7 A.F & A.M. and the Upshur Co. Shrine Club. James was an avid golfer.
Friends will be received today from 5-8 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday from the funeral home with the Rev. Ronald M. McCauley officiating. Entombment will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Mausoleum in Buckhannon. The Lewis County Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
