BUCKHANNON - Robert Shreve struck out six batters to lift Buckhannon- Upshur past Philip Barbour, 11-3, Thursday in Big 10 Conference action.
Shreve went four innings, giving up six hits and three runs for the Bucs, who trailed 3-2 before erupting for eight runs in the bottom of the fourth.
"The mistakes we made were all correctable," Colts coach Jonathan Carpenter said. "The boys didn't give up and they continued to play hard. We just have to cut down on the mistakes and our strikeouts. It's still early."
Two missed fly balls aided B-U to its big fourth inning.
"We misplayed a couple of balls and they capitalized, like good teams do," Carpenter said.
Sage Cline took the loss for the Colts. He went 3 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and six runs. He also walked two batters.
Offensively, Dalton Hill led the the visitors with three hits and two RBIs.
Sophomore Bryson Fluke paced the Bucs at the plate, going 2 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
The Bucs (1-0) will host Webster County at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Colts (0-1) are slated to play at Preston at 7 p.m. today.
East Hardy 1
PETERSBURG - Jace Shanholtz gave up one hit and struck out five to power Petersburg past East Hardy, 10-1, on Thursday.
The Cougars got on the scoreboard first when Corey McDonald scored on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning.
Not to be outdone, the Vikings scored eight runs in the fifth inning, sending 13 batters to the plate. Petersburg collected 11 hits in the contest.
"I thought we did a good job of keeping our composure," Vikings coach Bobby Jack Harman said. "I liked how we hung in there and kept being patient. We definitely played better defense today and we played good mental baseball on the bases."
Ryan Colaw paced the offense, going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Nick Dolly went 1 for 1 with two RBIs and Trent Borror was 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Bryce Strawderman took the loss for the Cougars.
Petersburg (2-0) will return to action Saturday for a doubleheader at Musselman High School against Spring Mills High School. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
East Hardy(1-1) will host Frankfort at 1 p.m. Saturday for a twin-bill..

Pocahontas County 0
FRANKLIN - Pendleton County scored 10 runs in the first inning Thursday en route to a 20-0 victory over sectional rival Pocahontas County.
Tim Hevener and Callum McGrath combined to toss a no-hitter for the Wildcats. Hevener pitched three innings and struck out eight, while McGrath tossed two innings and struck out four.
"We're always happy to get a victory over a sectional opponent," Pendleton County coach Sam Yokum said.
"It's important to get those wins, because it gives us an opportunity to gain home field advantage when it comes tournament time."
Senior Andrew Morrison took the loss for the Warriors, who dropped to 0-1 on the early season.
Pendleton County (1-0) will host Bath County, Va., at 4:30 p.m. today.
Pocahontas County (0-1) is scheduled to visit Philip Barbour at 1 p.m. Saturday for a doubleheader.
