Mr. Paul D. Shaffer, 79, a resident of Elkins, passed away Thursday evening, March 27, 2014, in Davis Medical Center in Elkins.
He was born June 10, 1934, at Parsons, a son of the late Okey Guy and Oda Boyles Shaffer.
On April 27, 1962, at Mill Creek, he was married to Shirley Ware Shaffer, who preceded him in death Aug. 17, 2006.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Tallman and husband, John, and Paula Lanham and husband, Mark, both of Elkins. One sister, Lorlie Shaffer of Parsons; a sister-in-law, Launa Shaffer; three grandchildren, John Paul Tallman and wife, Erin, Samantha Jo Davis and husband, Chris, and Kayla Lee Lanham; and a great-granddaughter, Willow Rose Tallman, also survive.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Edward Shaffer and Lewis Shaffer. He also had a beloved pet, milk shake.
Mr. Shaffer was brought up family oriented and grew up on the family farm working on the family sawmill and attended the Brushy Fork School prior to joining the United States Army. Throughout his journey in the service, he was stationed in Germany. He was a Methodist by faith. He was employed as a machine operator at Labcraft for 29 years prior to his retirement. In his free time, he loved to spend time with his family and friends. He would partake in his hobbies of hunting and skilled woodcraftsman.
Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. Full military honors will be accorded at the gravesite by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
