WESTON - The Lewis County Sheriff's Office arrested 12 people Friday morning in a drug sting Lewis County Sheriff Adam Gissy says was intended to send a message.
A 13th individual was arrested in Beckley in connection to the sting, Gissy said Friday afternoon.
As of presstime, the individuals arrested were still being arraigned on charges related to the delivery of controlled substances, including crystal methamphetamine, heroin and prescription pills, the sheriff said.
"Some of the arrests were related," Gissy said. "It's been a six-month operation. We literally went to 13 different residences, and three individuals ended up turning themselves in.
"I think by arresting people in mass numbers, it sends a message to people who are distributing drugs that just because you got away with things for so long does not mean you're going to continue to get away with it."
Individuals arrested include: Vickie Altland, Chelsey Green, Kelly Osborne, Jamie Taylor, Ashley Wimer, Kayla Carder, Donnie Crider, Tyler Davisson, Adam Corathers, David Lane, Amber James, Kayla Golden and Tyler Carpenter. Ages and addresses were not available as of presstime as individuals were still being arraigned in the Lewis County Magistrate's Office.
"We were grateful for the assistance of Harrison County SCAD (Street Crimes and Drug) unit who assisted with the execution of the arrest warrants," Gissy said. "Through the cooperation and communication between law enforcement agencies, today's arrests could be deemed very successful."
