BRIDGEPORT - The Elkins High School track teams opened the season at the Connect-Bridgeport.com Invitational Saturday at Wayne Jamison Field.
The EHS girls turned in a fifth-place performance, while the boys were seventh.
Bridgeport won the girls meet with 96.50 points, followed by Buckhannon-Upshur (69.50), Doddridge County (66), North Marion (58) and Hampshire and Elkins (49) to round out the top five. Philip Barbour was 13th and Lewis County 14th.
Doddridge took the boys event with 101 points to get past Bridgeport (97). Hampshire (64) was third, Fairmont Senior (63) fourth and Lewis County (62) fifth. B-U was sixth and Philip Barbour 10th.
The Tigers received second-place finishes from freshman Olivia Underwood in the 400-meter dash and Skylee Watson in the 800.
The 4x100 relay team (Paige Harrison, Lindsay Roy, Kathlyne Simmons and Carmen Woodward) and the 4x200 relay team (Harrison, Roy, Simmons and Underwood) also placed second.
B-U was led by Mackenzie Leigh, who captured the discus and shot put, while Katy Riley claimed the pole vault.
The Elkins boys had a first-place showing from the 4x800 relay team (Matt Wallace, Remington Knight, Austin Hamrick and Chris Bodkin).
Wallace also placed second in the 1,600, while Michael Beckwith was runner-up in the discus.
B-U's Marcus Lofton earned high-point honors by taking the 100, 200 and high jump titles.
Lewis County's Dustin Martin captured the 300 hurdles and was second in the 110 hurdles.
Elkins will host the annual Irwin Invitational at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
