ELKINS - Angie Lewis, CFm, of HomePlus, has successfully completed a rigorous process to earn certification as a mastectomy fitter from the Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC).
Upon completion of the certification process Lewis is qualified to measure, fit, dispense and adjust external breast prosthesis, bras and related supplies.
"Fitting breast cancer patients requires a balance of technical expertise, emotional sensitivity and an understanding of the insurance and reimbursement process," said Lewis. "I'm prepared to assist our patients in any way. I'm glad to help."
According to Lewis, post-mastectomy products have advanced over the past five to 10 years. Manufacturers are designing products which are lighter and more comfortable to wear. However, certain insurance plans have specific requirements on what is and is not a covered product.
"That makes understanding the entire fitting process very important for someone in my position," said Lewis.
HomePlus carries a full line of post-mastectomy products including breast forms, bras, post surgical camisoles, swimsuits, lymphedema sleeves and other mastectomy apparel. A discreet, comfortable area is designated in the store for private fittings and counseling.
"Accreditation is a rigorous process but we feel it is important as a continual quality improvement mechanism," said Amy Wyatt, director of Home Medical Equipment. "We're proud of Angie and her commitment to our patients."
Appointments with Lewis for fittings are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. The hours of operation are Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. until
