"We also had a couple of first-place finishes in the relays, which also has been a while since we've done that. The girls have worked hard and I think the results on the track are starting to show the effort they have given."
The Tigers' Olivia Underwood shared high-point honors with Hampshire's Taylor Harwood. Both had 24.5 points.
Underwood, a freshman, captured the long jump with a leap of 15-1, while finishing second in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 400.
Other first-place finishers for Elkins were the 4x100 relay (Paige Harrison, Lindsay Roy, Kathlyne Simmons and Carmen Woodward), the 4x200 (Harrison, Roy, Simmons and Underwood) and Jontasia Sitton in the shot put with a throw of 35-11. She was second in the discus, while Skylee Watson (800), Harrison (300 hurdles) and Simmons (long jump) also were runner-ups in their respective events.
The Trojans racked up 132 points to take the boys meet. Fairmont Senior was second with 120 points, followed by Elkins (86), Petersburg (64), Charleston Catholic (60), North Marion (35), Tygarts Valley (21), Grafton (14) and Trinity (10).
Hampshire's Casey Feezle was high-point winner for the boys.
The Tigers were led by Matt Wallace, who captured the 1,600 (4:46) and 800 (2:06). Austin Hamrick also took the 3,200 in a time of 10:41, Daniel Crawford the long jump (18-3.5) and the 4x800 relay team (Wallace, Remington Knight, Hamrick and Chris Bodkin) in a time of 9:01.
Michael Beckwith was second in the discus.
"I was pleased with our performance," Elkins boys coach Matt Lewis said. "I can't say I'm enthusiastic over our times or distances, but considering the cool windy conditions, I'll take it.
"I think we're heading in the right direction, but there's still a lot of work to be done. The distance crew really gutted out some big races and I can't be happier for them registering a couple of victories The (4x800) relay is continuing to dominate, which is great to see."
Tygarts Valley was led by Derrick Villarico, who placed second in the long jump.
Elkins will return to action at 4 p.m. Friday at the Larry Conway Invitational at Lewis County.
