James Kenneth "Jim" Phillips, 70, of Tacy, Sunshine Ridge Road, Philippi, died Friday, April 4, 2014, in Mansfield Place, Philippi, following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 16, 1943, at Philippi, a son of the late Clint Ernest and Nova Vale "Boyles" Phillips.
On April 19, 1962, he married the former Reta Catherine Freeman, who preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2014.
Surviving are one daughter, Catherine V. Stemple and husband, John, of Clarksburg; one son, James William Phillips and wife, Rhonda Jill, of Roanoke, Va.; one brother, William E. Phillips and wife, Elizabeth, of Philippi; five grandchildren, Tavia Grace (Frankie) Defazio, Tanya Rochelle Stemple, Tamara Catherine Phillips, Kara Renee (Justin) Halsey, James Joseph Phillips; and two great- granddaughters, Grayce Jo Defazio and Anna Capri Defazio.
He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Dorothy Murle (Fitzwater) Phillips.
Mr. Phillips retired from the West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways, as an inspector of bridge construction. He was a member of the Shiloh Church of the Brethren and was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Chestnut Ridge Public Service District.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi.
Pastor Hal Sonafrank and Pastor Garry Clem will officiate and interment will follow in the Central Chapel Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 9-11 a.m., the funeral hour.
