ELKINS - Local Zumba instructors will come together to make a difference Friday.
Elkins High School senior Katie Preusch has planned a Zumbathon for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Elkins Middle School gymnasium as part of her senior project.
Registration for the event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and admission is $10. Monies collected will be donated to the American Heart Association. Preusch said those attending the event can know that they are doing a good deed to help the American Heart Association.
"I chose to do this project because I have enjoyed Zumba for many years and think it is a great cardio activity," Preusch said. "It is a great way for everyone to stay healthy and active."
Preusch said she wants to promote good health and healthy lifestyles, and Zumba fits in with that philosophy. She said she and five other instructors, Kristen McGill, Katy Ross, Ashley Stephens, Alissa Kerns and Melody Tingler, will be leading the Zumbathon.
"We will be taking breaks during the two-hour event," Preusch said. "We will have beverages, snacks and raffle items. The Zumbathon will be lots of fun, and I hope to have between 100 and 150 participants."
Preusch said she thinks the Zumbathon will be good for people, and she enjoys helping others.
"After high school, I hope to attend West Virginia University and study biochemistry," Preusch said. "I want to be an OB-GYN."
