Elkins sophomore Kathryn Reed slid safely into second base Monday under the tag of a Buckhannon-Upshur defender. The Tigers won 3-2.
"Jordan Hart hit a foul home run, along with several other players hitting well. Elkins wanted to redeem themselves after the last encounter with Buckhannon and I think the girls did just that. Elkins girls have gotten beat by one run in several games last week. These girls deserved a much-needed win."
Alyssa Harper hit a blooper and got on first with a throwing error. The error allowed her to take second base, while Larel Teter advanced all the way to home to score the winning run and give Elkins the 3-2 victory.
Harper also went the distance on the mound, giving up seven hits and striking out one batter. At the plate, she was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
"Amy Fincham, Katy Reed and Sydney Leary made tremendous plays in the outfield for us to be able to stay in the game," Cameron said. "Amy Fincham made a great catch against the center field fence in the top of the seventh to keep Elkins in the game. Sydney Leary made a diving catch in right field in the top of the sixth and Katy Reed made four nice catches in the outfield also."
Teter paced the Tigers offense, going 1 for 2 with a double and two runs scored. Haily Collett went 1 for 3 with a double. Reed was 2 for 3 with a triple, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base.
The Tigers (9-7) travel to Fairmont Senior today for a 5 p.m. game. Buckhannon Upshur (8-9) travels to University today for a 4:30 p.m. game.
