Vernon Gordon Carr, 82, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday morning, April 23, 2014, in Hospice Care Inpatient Unit in Elkins.
Vern was born Dec. 15, 1931, at Beverly, the son of the late Stellman Carr and Reta Shipley of Wymer.

Also surviving are four children, Ethel Smearman and husband, Donald, Richard Carr and wife, Karen, and Ronald Carr, all of Elkins and Betty Hale of Norton; five stepchildren, Dora Fisher, Samuel Elza, Alvin Elza and wife, Patty, all of Elkins, Dollena Collier and husband, John, of Valley Bend and Wanda Elza of Morgantown; and two sisters, Charlene Mallow of Job and Edith Mallow of Elkins. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Melissa Carr, Kayla and Kelli Carr, all of Beverly, Carla Hale of Norton and Tiffany Carr of Pittsburgh, Pa.; six stepgrandchildren, Patricia Mason and husband, Mike, of Bridgeport, Robert Brown and wife, Mary, of Valley Bend, Traci Turner and Casey Elza of Elkins and Stephen Elza of Morgantown; and eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Also preceding him in death were two sons, Jimmy and Donald Carr; two brothers, Jack and Willis Carr; and one grandson, Kenneth Brown.
Vern retired from Davis Trust Co. where he worked alongside his wife for many years; and he had also worked for Kermit Butcher Construction.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert L. Lowther and Pastor David Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
