Fifteen top high school juniors from across West Virginia are the semifinalists for the seventh annual MVB Bank West Virginia Scholar Program.
The winner will receive a full, four-year scholarship to West Virginia Wesleyan College to include tuition and fees, along with room and board, starting fall 2015. Second prize is a four-year $5,000 scholarship and the third prize is a four-year $2,500 scholarship to the college.
The semifinalists are Carly Brand of Lewisburg, Greenbrier East High School; Cassidy Duffy of South Charleston, Cross Lanes Christian School; Todd Foster of Craigsville, Nicholas County High School; Miranda Godfrey of Kearneysville, Washington High School; John Goellner of Morgantown, Trinity Christian School; Brooke Hinzman of Elkins, Elkins High School; Joanna Johnson of Hurricane, Hurricane High School; Daniel McNeil of Morgantown, University High School; Devan Perdue of Morgantown, Morgantown High School; Rebekah Perry of Huntington, Spring Valley High School; Kathryn Quillen of Vienna, Parkersburg High School; Karizona Sanson of Summersville, Nicholas County High School; Erick Trent of Point Pleasant, Wahama High School; Ashley Walker of Clarksburg, Liberty High School; and Mitchell Winkie of Bridgeport, Bridgeport High School.
Following the interviews, the 10 finalists will be announced May 26 and online voting will begin that day at www.wvmetronews.com. The voting will run through June 13.
The 2014 West Virginia Scholar will be introduced at an awards luncheon at West Virginia Wesleyan College on June 18.
