ELKINS - Davis & Elkins College signed one of the area's premier golfers Thursday, when Elkins High's Kollin Hopwood signed a national letter of intent to tee off for the Senators next season.
"I'm really excited to play at the college level," Hopwood said. "I really like the golf program at D&E. It's probably the best in the state. It's also close to home."
A four-sport letterman in high school, Hopwood said playing one sport would allow him the opportunity to focus on his golf game. Aside from golf, Hopwood also excelled at baseball, basketball and soccer.

This past fall, he earned all-Big 10 Conference first-team honors and second team all-state laurels. Hopwood finished 16th overall at the state golf tourney.
"(D&E) Coach (Alasdiar Forsythe) said if I work hard, I could be in the top six," Hopwood said.
"They've got a tough team coming up, so I've gotta work hard to be up there. The competition will be a lot more challenging. I just have to focus and practice hard."
EHS golf coach Dave Baird says Hopwood will thrive in the system at D&E. He believes Senator coach Alasdiar Forsythe can help Hopwood push his game to the next level.
"He's going to do very well," Baird said. "He's going to be someone you read about over the next couple of years. He's got a great coach to work with it.
"He's seen Kollin play and he knows what he's getting."
