On May 2, Guy O. Gibson will celebrate his 80th birthday.
Mr. Gibson was born in Elkins to parents S.R. and Emma Gibson. He grew up in a large family with four brothers and five sisters.
He has lived much of his life in a home that he built with his wife, Ruth, alongside the Tygart Valley River on Georgetown Road. There, he and Ruth raised six children, Rebecca, Jeanette, Robin, Pamela, Julia and Guy. Their family soon expanded with the addition of sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Gibson served the Elkins area as a skilled carpenter during his working years. He was also a proud member of the United States Army National Guard and completed a tour overseas during Desert Storm in 1990. He has been a longtime member of Hart Chapel Community Church.
On May 3, his children will host a party to celebrate his birthday from 2-4 p.m. at the Hart Chapel Community Church Fellowship Hall on Chenoweth Creek Road.
Gifts are to be omitted.
