Poetry contest winners honored

Barbour County students who placed in a poetry contest sponsored by the Barbour County Reading Council in March, read their winning poems at Code Blue Tuesday during the Philippi Art Stroll. Pictured in the front row from left are Macie Satterfield, a third place winner from Belington Elementary School in the 3-5 grade category, and for grades 1-2, Kasi Bray of Mount Vernon Elementary School, in first place, Makayla Gribble of MVES, in second place, and Connely Sparks of Kasson Elementary Middle School, in third place. In the next row is Bella Hubbard of Philippi Middle School, the third place winner for grades 6-8 with winners of the 3-5 grade category, Dean Marteney of Volga Century Elementary School, in second place, and Caleb Nuzum, an honorable mention winner also from VCES. In the back row are grades 9-12 winners Kylee Heims of Philip Barbour High School, in third place, Marlee Hoffman of PBHS in second place, and Micah Harris of KEMS in second place for grades 6-8. Winners not pictured are: Makenzie White of Belington Elementary School, the first place winner in grades 3-5, Jessica Melvin of KEMS, the first place winner in grades 6-8, Mason Halfin of KEMS, an honorable mention for grades 3-5, and Wes McGee of PBHS, the first place winner in grades 9-12.
