PHILIPPI - Isaac Riggleman allowed just one hit in three innings of relief Thursday to help Elkins defeat Big 10 rival Philip Barbour, 10-0.
"The guys gave a solid performance, both at the plate and in the field," Tigers coach Adam Roth said. "We only committed one error. I was glad to see us come out and play the way we need to play."
Riggleman earned the victory for Elkins. He gave up one hit and struck out three batters.
Tyler Baldwin took the loss for the Colts in 2 2/3 innings. He gave up six runs on five hits, struck out one and walked three.
Elkins scored seven runs in the third inning to break the game open.
Joseph Severino led the Tiger offense, going 1 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Kollin Hopwood went 2 for 2 with two runs and a double. Cole Harlan went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Daniel Crawford went 1 for 2 with two RBIs and scored two runs.
The Tigers (12-9) will travel to Lewis County at noon Saturday, while Philip Barbour hosts Pocahontas County at noon on?Saturday.
Pendleton 18, Tucker 0
PARSONS - Luke Yokum tossed a no-hitter Thursday to help Pendleton County romp Tucker County, 18-0, in Potomac Valley Conference action.
"It was nice to end the regular season with a conference win," Wildcats coach Sam Yokum said. "We were able to get a lot of different people in the game. At this point in the season, we're trying to get the pitchers up in the pitch count to build their arm strength for the post season."
The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Yokum struck out 11 batters. At the plate, he went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Jacob Lambert paced the Wildcats, going 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Logan Cooper also went 2 for 2 and batted in a run. Trey Cooper went 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Zack Haddix took the loss for the Mountain Lions.
He pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up 10 runs on seven hits.
Pendleton County will host Pocahontas County at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Game 1 of the Section 3, Region 2 tournament. Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday at Pocahontas County at 5 p.m. Game 3, if needed, would return to Pendleton County on Friday.
Moorefield sweeps Bulldogs
MOOREFIELD?- Moorefield swept Tygarts Valley Thursday in PVC action.
The Yellow Jackets took the opening game 4-0 as Dakota Vetter tossed a three-hitter, striking out six and walking four.
Austin Williams went 2 for 3 and knocked in a run to lead Moorefield at the plate.
Keighan Chewning went six innings, allowing four runs on five hits in taking the loss. He fanned four and didn't walk a batter. Owen Arbogast had a pair of hits for the Bulldogs.
In the nightcap, Seth Stickley went 3 for 4 and drove in four runs to power Moorefield to the sweep.
Tyler Smith and Byron Dolly added three RBIs each.
Jestin Cosner earned the win, giving up four runs on five hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Arbogast was tagged with the loss, allowing eight runs on eight hits in three innings.
Caleb Riggleman went 2 for 3 at the plate in a losing effort.
Both teams will be in action at 6 p.m. today, as Tygarts Valley (14-8) will visit Notre Dame and the Yellow Jackets travel to Jefferson.
Pendleton County takes title
FRANKLIN?- Pendleton County captured the Class A, Region II, Section 3 title by sweeping Pocahontas County on Thursday.
The Wildcats, who defeated the Warriors by scores of 14-0 and 16-0, will travel to Moorefield on Thursday in regional semifinal action.
Brittany Huffman earned the win in the opening game, allowing just one hit and fanning three in five innings.
Megan Keller, Hillary Ord, Cheyenne Pitsenbarger and Caylie Simmons all had two RBIs for the Wildcats.
Bobbie McNabb took the loss for Pocahontas County. Natalie Hartzell had the lone hit.
Pitsenbarger allowed three hits and struck out nine to garner the win in the second game. She also helped her cause with four RBIs
McNabb was the losing pitcher. Makayla Marks had two hits for the Warriors.
