Roy Francis Stalnaker, 81, a resident of Elkins, departed this life Thursday evening, May 15, 2014, in the Davis Memorial Hospital emergency department.
He was born Saturday, April 8, 1933, at Beverly, a son of the late Bruce Stalnaker Sr. and Hilda Daniels Stalnaker.
On March 1, 1958, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Margaret V. Weese, who survives. They had celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one brother, Gerald L. "Jerry" Stalnaker of East Dailey; one sister, Barbara "Bobbie" Hinkle and husband, Charlie, of East Dailey; one brother-in-law, Maynard "Kenneth" Weese and wife, Donna, of Beverly; one nephew, Douglas Kent Weese and wife, Rhea, of Washington, Pa.; one niece, Amie Haddix and husband, Tim, of Beverly; four great-nephews, Jonathan and Nathan Weese and Owen and Kenton Haddix; and several other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Preceding him in death was one brother, Bruce Stalnaker Jr.
He attended the schools of Dailey and was a graduate of the Beverly High School. He started his career with the U.S. Forest Service in Elkins and retired in Jackson, Miss., after 33 years of service. The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins Sunday, May 18, from 12:30-2 p.m. The casket will remain closed. On Sunday at 2 p.m., a celebration of life will be conducted at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Peter A. Vial will officiate, and cremation will follow. Interment of the cremains will follow at a later date in Beverly Cemetery at Beverly.
