The 31st annual Mother's Day Rally and Walk for Life will be held at the Holy Rosary Church Hall on Franklin Street Saturday.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the program will begin at 10 a.m. The rally and walk are sponsored by Upshur County Right to Life, part of West Virginians for Life.
Patty Cooper, of the Parkersburg Crisis Pregnancy Center and a leader in pro-life, will be the speaker, and there will be music by a choir from Cavalry Baptist Church.
After the program, the walk will begin at Holy Rosary Church, proceed up Main Street to West Virginia Wesleyan College and back. A free lunch will be served.
Del. Bill Hamilton, R-Upshur, informed the right-to-life group at a recent meeting that there are many requests from legislators to bring Bill 4588 back to the floor for further consideration after it had been overwhelmingly passed in the Legislature but vetoed by the governor as "unconstitutional." The bill prohibits abortion up to 20 weeks, except for rare cases. West Virginia is one of the very few states that allows abortion up to birth.
The event will be held rain or shine. For more information, call 304-472-3434.
