Donald Dayton Nestor, 82, a resident of the Bretz Community, Hambleton, departed this life Monday morning, May 19, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born Sunday, Nov. 1, 1931, at Texas Mountain, St. George, a son of the late John Everett and Minnie J. Nestor.
On June 13, 1953, at Red House, Md., he was married to the former Josephine "Jo" Arlene Darnell, who preceded him March 10, 2012.
Surviving are two daughters, Donna Joyce Phares and husband, Jim, of Valley Bend, and Norma Jean Grafton of Bretz; one sister, Lora Faye Nestor and husband, Deryl, of Alabama; five grandchildren, Jeff Booth, Scott Phares, Trisha Bank, James Robert Grafton and Dustin Grafton; and nine great-grandchildren, Hailee, Joel, Aiden, Bella, Phoenix, Raegan, Jackson, Hunter and Jaiselyn.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ira Nestor, Ellis Nestor and infant Allan Nestor; and three sisters, Lottie Jones, Nellie Auvil and Orpha Moore.
He attended the one-room Murphy School at Texas Mountain. He was an electrician. He was a logger for Woodrow Price. He was a former employee of the West Virginia Division of Highways driving truck. He was a former employee of Kingsford Charcoal Co. and retired from Parsons Footwear. He was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church, where he helped with the food pantry. He enjoyed watching sports, ball games and westerns. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing and gardening.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons today from 5-8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Thursday, May 22, at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Jeff Anderson will officiate, and interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows.
