Carmelle Leona Binns, 85, departed this life the evening of Feb. 13, 2014, at the Davis Medical Center.
She was born July 16, 1928, in Charleston, a daughter of the late Thomas and Leona O'Connor Binns. She had never married, but lived a full life. After a stint in Army Intelligence, she started a life in the theater, acting and playwriting, first in New York and touring and then in Elkins.
She had returned to take care of her parents. While home, she worked at Elkins Public Library and, for many years, at ERCC.
Her body was donated to WVU Hospital.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary G. Reynolds of Great Falls, Mont., and Kathleen E. Sainato (John) of Elkins; and two brothers, Thomas J. Binns (Barbara) of Crystal Springs and Terrance P. Binns (Betty) of Elkins; and 22 nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law, Dan Batory of Pennsylvania; and one sister-in-law, Marie Binns of Virginia.
She was preceeded in death by her parents; one sister, Joan E. Batory; and four brothers, Paul (infant); Robert (infant); John Samuel Binns of Odessa, Texas; Raymond E. Binns of Glouster, Va.; brother-in-law E.J. Reynolds; and sister-in-law Ruth Head Binns.
The family will celebrate her life with a memorial service at the Old Brick Theater at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014.
