Mamie Lilian Smith Tenney, 92, of Buckhannon, went to be with the Lord and Savior Wednesday morning, May 21, 2014.
She was born May 26, 1921, in Hemlock, a daughter of the late Sanford and Nola Nicholas Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ura O. Tenney; one son, Larry Michael Tenney; her sister, Rosie Smith Hoover; and her brother, Burl H. Smith.
She is survived by one son, Garry Randall Tenney and his wife, Alice Drew Tenney, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one daughter, Barbara Jean (Tenney) Lipscomb and her husband, the late Mack Lipscomb, of Reedsville; one grandson, Ryan Lipscomb of Reedsville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was baptized at the Mt. Olive Church in Hemlock and has been a church member for more than 75 years. She graduated from Buckhannon Upshur High School in the spring of 1940 and married her husband, Ura O. Tenney, in the fall of 1940. Along with raising her family and being a loving mother and wife, she worked at various jobs to include West Virginia Wesleyan College, Greens Restaurant and Lulus Restaurant. She resided the last three years of her life at Victoria Manor in Buckhannon receiving excellent care. She will be missed!
Friends will be received Tuesday, May 27, from 6-8 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Hemlock with the Rev. Josie Tenney and Pastor Holly J. Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Church Cemetery in Hemlock.
