Charles E. Beihl, 89, a resident of Wheeling, died Thursday, May 22, 2014, in Colonial Place, Elkins.
He was born March 8, 1925, in Wheeling, the son of the late Howard S. and Clara Beihl.
Chuck was a 1942 graduate of Wheeling High School, where he played varsity basketball. He attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams. In 1945, he was signed by the Washington Senators, and played for several professional teams, including Buffalo Bisons and Portsmouth Cubs. He also played for the Center Wheeling Merchants, the Valan Contractors of Wheeling basketball clubs and the Wheeling Giants and Warwood Redbirds baseball clubs. He was a retired construction estimator for Grubb Contracting and Walters Construction. He was a Christian, and member of the former St. Stephen's United Church of Christ. He was a member of the Scottish Rite 33rd and Last Degree, El Tor Grotto, and Masonic Lodge 5 of Wheeling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Beihl; sister, Wilma Beiswenger; brother, Louis Beihl.
Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Corder (Roger) of Elkins; son, Randy Beihl (Michelle) of Wheeling; grandchildren, Drew Beihl (Melissa), Kristin Satterfield (Steve), Kara Carissimi (Chris), Casey Casto (Aaron), Bryan Corder, Travis Beihl (fiancee, Erin Reske) and Laura Beihl; great-grandchildren, Jarred, Emilee, Brady and Faith Beihl, Sam and Audrey Satterfield, and Joel and Ellie Casto; brother, Thomas Beihl; sister-in-law, Agnes Wentzel; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Friends will be received Monday, May 26, from 5-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Ave., Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-277-2722) where services will be conducted Tuesday, May 27, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark A. Zelewicz Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
