City youngsters participated in the Mayor’s/Johnny Keller Intra-City Track Meet earlier this week. Midland Elementary finished first with 574 points. Third Ward Elementary finished second with 397 points, Jennings Randolph Elementary finished third with 138 points and North Elementary finished fourth with 108 points. Midland had the largest percentage of kids participating, and was awarded $300 for the school’s physical education department. Third Ward had the second-highest participation percentage and was awarded $200. Overall, 56 area children participated in the main races, with another 15 participating in the fun run. During the event, Elkins Mayor Van Broughton presented Johnny Keller’s sister with a plaque and a key to the city. ‘Johnny Keller was very giving of his time and energy to things like this so I think it was a fitting way to honor him and his family,’ said volunteer Scott Biola.
