Peyton Gillespie will host her third annual Pet Show during Weston's Amazing Week June 16-June 21.
The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at the Charles Lively Park at the corner of Center Avenue and Fourth Street. The evening will begin with a pet blessing by Father John Valentine of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Blessing of the Animal events have been celebrated since the 13th century. It is a way for humans to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assissi, embodying his love of animals and of all mankind. St. Francis is the patron of all animals and the environment, and founded the Fransican order.
Pet Show host Peyton Gillespie displays her cat, Ruby Jean.
He also wrote the Canticle of the Creatures. Often he referred to animals as the brothers and sisters to mankind.
To ensure the safety of participant's pets, and the others who are present, please put them on a leash, or in a crate/cage (or bowl) as appropriate.
The entry fee is any donation of cat food, dog food, or pet supplies or monetary donation. All proceeds will benefit the Lewis-Upshur Humane Society, located in Buckhannon. Water will be provided and all participants will win a prize.
