EKINS - Pioneer Insurance Agency Inc. in Elkins is proud to announce that insurance agent Michelle R. "Shelly" Kerns has earned a statewide award from The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research and she now is in the running for national recognition.
Kerns, of Belington, has been named the 2014 Outstanding Customer Service Representative of the Year for West Virginia.
"This is a huge honor, and I was shocked to find out that I was the winner," Kerns said recently, prior to traveling to an award ceremony in Charleston on June 19, which was sponsored by The National Alliance. "My principal agent, Ellen Streets, nominated me for this award based on my customer service skills, and I am thrilled in the confidence she has shown in me and my career."
Kerns joined the staff of Pioneer Insurance Agency Inc. in 2007. She has a diploma from Lincoln High School, attended Insurance Schools of West Virginia Inc. and has completed classes in all phases of insurance through Erie Agents College. She is a licensed agent for personal and commercial lines as well as life insurance. Through Pioneer Insurance Agency Inc., she serves customers primarily in Randolph, Barbour, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Tucker and Upshur counties in West
She resides in Barbour County with her husband, Tim. They have three sons and one granddaughter.
She enjoys camping with her family, going to youth basketball and baseball games, riding all terrain-vehicles, and spending quality time with her children and grandchild.
Kerns is active in community events such as Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs and Randolph County Relay For Life. She also is an active member of Belington Middle School's band boosters group.
Each state winner receives a framed certificate and is eligible to compete for the national honor, which carries a $2,000 cash award, a gold and diamond pin, $1,000 cash award for the nominator and a scholarship for the recipient's employer to any program offered by The National Alliance. Additionally, the name of the Outstanding CSR of the Year is inscribed on a sculpture permanently displayed at the national headquarters of The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research in Austin, Texas.
