Donald E. Whiting Sr., 86, of Rockynol Assisted Living Community, Akron, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, after a brief
Mr. Whiting graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College, both in Buckhannon. He also graduated from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa., where he received his MBA. Don served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a CPA in Philadelphia, Pa., but spent the majority of his career working for Jones & Laughlin/LTV Steel in accounting management positions. He worked in Pittsburgh, Pa., Atlanta, Ga., Cleveland, Youngstown and Louisville, Ohio. The 11 years prior to his retirement in 1989 were spent in Aliquippa, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Mildred; his brother, Billy; Irene, his wife of 62 years; and daughter and son-in-law Ellen and Brian Dick.
He is survived by one daughter, Elaine Whiting (Carol Dezso), of Akron, Ohio; one son, Don Whiting Jr. (Tonia), of Bolivar, Ohio; and "adopted" daughter, Linda Hunt-Johnson (Lewis), of Louisville, Ohio.
Private graveside services were conducted Monday, June 23, in Buckhannon.

The family would like to give our most sincere thanks to everyone involved in Dad's care while at Rockynol in the Assisted Living facility and The Ledges, the Visiting Nurse Service of Akron and Dr. Payton for giving so much of yourselves to provide the care and attention our Dad needed. We really appreciate your dedication, your wisdom, your compassion and grace. Dad knew he was in good hands and so do we. We are forever grateful.
