Helen Ester Long Wotring, 78, a resident of the Pheasant Run Community, Kerens, departed this life Sunday afternoon, June 29, 2014, in Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Unit at Elkins, surrounded by her family.
She was born Friday, May 8, 1936, at Summerset County, Pa., a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Mahalia Plum Long.
On May 8, 1952, at Red House, Md., she was married to Robert Franklin Wotring Sr., who survives. They had celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Also surviving are one son, Robert Franklin Wotring Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Pennsylvania; one daughter, Diane Lynn Wotring of Kerens; one sister, Ruth Gotinsky and husband, Ernie, of Kerens; three granddaughters, Tonya and husband, Vincent Canfield, Jesse and husband, James O'Neil, and Sierra Wotring; and three great-grandsons, Warren, Brandon and Wyatt.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, Frank Long Jr., Roy D. Long and one infant; and seven sisters, Georgie Long, Dessie Haube, Alberta Poveromo, Annie Brown, Bertha Wortman, Edith Scott and one
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1954 and a graduate of Catherman's Business School in Maryland. She was a former employee of Sacred Heart Hospital and worked in a bank. She retired from the Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Md. She was a member of Center Street United Methodist Church at Cumberland, Md. She was very active in Boy Scouts and was a Den Mother. She loved all children and enjoyed flowers and animals.
The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Thursday, July 3, at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Neil Parsons will officiate, and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons.
