ELKINS - Two separate Randolph County shootings - occurring nearly simultaneously Tuesday afternoon - sent injured men to Davis Medical Center, police said.
The first shooting took place in front of the Beverly Elementary School sometime between 4 and 4:30 p.m., Randolph County Sheriff Mark Brady told The Inter-Mountain Tuesday evening.
"The incident began in front of Beverly Elementary School as an argument between a woman and a man," Brady said. "The woman started to drive off in a vehicle and the man shot himself in the head."
Brady said the man was "alert and combative" when deputies arrived at the scene. The sheriff said his office is still completing the investigation and no further details were available.
The West Virginia State Police were called to Valley Bend for another domestic dispute just after the Beverly situation occured, Brady said. The second altercation, between a man and his nephew, happened near the Rennix Farms property, he said.
"The argument resulted in a grandson shooting the nephew," Brady said.
Brady said he had no other details about the Valley Bend incident, adding Cpl. M.S. Wetzel of the Elkins detachment of the State Police was handling the investigation.
Asked for comment Tuesday evening, Wetzel said the investigation was in the preliminary stages and no further information could be released at the time.
