Flora "Ruth" Ensor, 100, formerly of the Bailey Ridge Community, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at the home of her daughter, Karen Brown, with whom she had resided for the past several years.
She was born May 3, 1914, in Frenchton, a daughter of the late Joshua Elias and Flora Rilla Roby Simons.
She was united in marriage Dec. 26, 1948, to Hubert Clinton Ensor, who preceded her in death Oct. 13, 1964.
Also preceding her in death was one half brother, Robert Glen Simons.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen and husband, Ronald Brown, of Glady Fork and Judy and husband, Keith Johnson, of Bailey Ridge; three granddaughters, Charlene and husband, Joshua Thomas, of Weston, Kendra and husband, Dustin Wilson, of Bailey Ridge and Staff Sgt. Keisha and husband, Jeffrey George, of South Charleston; one grandson, Kevin and wife, Teresa Johnson, of Kesling Ridge; and six great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Paxson and Jaxsen Thomas of Weston, Nevaeh George of South Charleston, Mercedies George with the U.S. Marines in California, and Makayla and Amari George of South Charleston.
Ruth was a member of Buckhannon Church of Christ, where she faithfully attended services for more than 50 years. She was a devoted Christian and prayed and read her Bible daily. She worked as a clerk at G.C. Murphy for more than 30 years, where she was admired by customers and coworkers alike. Ruth was a lifetime member of French Creek Disabled American Veterans Chapter 36 Ladies' Auxiliary and a charter member of Bailey Ridge Homemakers Extension. She also was an accomplished poet, whose words touched many people.
The family will receive friends at Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel today from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 11, at 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Darrell Toothman and the Rev. Robert F. Heavner officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner
