JANE LEW - A passenger in a fatal head-on collision involving two pickup trucks was pronounced dead on the scene Sunday, police said.
The accident took place on Hackers Creek Road near the Plantation Inn in Jane Lew, killing one person, injuring another and leaving a third person without any reported injuries, according to a press release from Deputy J.R. Morgan of the Lewis County Sheriff's Department. None of the three individuals involved in the accident were identified by police Monday.
The accident occurred after a Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck traveling north on Hackers Creek Road switched lanes to pass another vehicle, striking a Ford F250 pickup truck head-on.
The driver of the Ford F250 was not injured, police said.
The driver of the Chevrolet 1500, however, was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital with injuries that were non-life threatening, according to the press release.
The passenger in the Chevrolet 1500 was pronounced dead at the scene by the state medical examiner, the release stated.
The incident is still under investigation by the Lewis County Sheriff's Department.
