Doris Jane Ball passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, in Colonial Place in Elkins.
She was born May 9, 1923, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late George T. and Doris Jane Kootz Meyers.
Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Clark Ball, whom she married Feb. 2, 1947.
Mrs. Ball was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and of Mountain State Business College. She helped with the Red Cross during World War II, was a past High Priestess of the Hathor Court, past president of PHP Club, past president of Mu Gamma Chapter Alpha Iota Society of Parkersburg, an honorary state member of PTA at McKinley School in Parkersburg, a three time Girl Scout leader, past president of the Fairmont Women's Club and served for 10 years as an officer of the North Central District of the West Virginia Federation of Women's Clubs, including a year as president. She also held various offices at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Parkersburg and at First United Methodist Church in Fairmont.
Mrs. Ball is survived by a daughter, Janielu Board and her husband, Gene, of Fairmont; three grandchildren, David Alan Board and his wife, Susan, of Palmer, Alaska, Lydia Jane Gwaltney and her husband, Paul, of Morgantown and Jonathan Andrew Board and his wife, Ileana, of Fairmont; and five great-grandchildren, Emily Jane Gwaltney, Molly Elizabeth Gwaltney, Benjamin Lawrence Board, Hero Marianna Board and Paxton Clark Board.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca; a grandson, Richard Rumbold; and her sister, Jeanne Whitney.
The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, WV 26554 Thursday, July 31, from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. A private graveside service will be conducted at a later time in Mt. Zion Cemetery & Mausoleum in Fairmont.
