ELKINS - The Augusta Heritage Center of Davis & Elkins College is entering its final week of summer sessions and it's packed with events, ushering in Old-Time, Vocal and Dance Week, along with Augusta for Kids.
Lectures, nightly dances and a jam session add to the week's entertainment along with two vocal, old-time and dance concerts. Doors open for both concerts at 7 p.m. and the shows begin at 7:30 p.m. in Myles Center for the Arts Harper-McNeeley Auditorium. Dances in the open-air pavilion will take place afterward. Tuesday's concert features special guest Elmer Rich with Mark Crabtree and additional performances by Magpie, Charlie Walden, Patt Plunket, Joebass DeJarnette and Karen Mueller, Lea Gilmore, Joe Newberry and the Musicianers, Sheila Kay Adams and Flawn Williams, along with step dancers and tap dancers. Williams will serve as master of ceremonies. After the concert, the Old-Time Week staff will perform for a square dance with caller Will Mentor and special guests in the open-air pavilion.
On Thursday, banjoists Frank Lee and Friends will take the stage along with Eva Salina Primack, flatfooting dancers, West African dancers, Ken Perlman, Alan Jabbour, Jim Watson, Maudlin Brothers with Ed Norman, Jon Newlin and Amy Davis, and Big Band featuring Jesse Milnes, Dave Bing, Joebass DeJarnette, Andrew Dunlap, Ben Townsend and KC Groves. Joe Newberry will serve as master of ceremonies. The after-concert squares and contras dance will feature music from Maivish with callers Will Mentor and special guests.
