Rosemary Ruth Riley Charny, 67, a resident of Ellamore, departed this life Monday evening at the Davis Medical Center at Elkins.
She was born Thursday, Oct. 24, 1946, at Buckhannon, a daughter of the late William Ralph Owen and Lena Annunziata DeGerolami Riley. On Oct. 25, 1969, at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church at Coalton, she was married to Ronald Matthew Charny, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Scott Charny, and wife, Kyla, of Keego Harbor, Mich.; James Charny and wife, Rani, of Titusville, Fla.; one daughter, Rebecca Mandap and husband, Rommel, of Simpsonville, S.C.; two brothers, James L. "Jim" Riley, of Raleigh, N.C.; William R. "Bill" Riley and wife, Catherine, of West Milford; one sister, Kathleen Marie Fenton and husband, Randy, of Barrickville; and six grandchildren, Collin, Isaac, Connor, Joshua, Ethan, and Cydney.
She was a graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School and West Virginia University, with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army Nurses Corp, serving during the Vietnam War, and had worked as a Registered Nurse at the Golden Clinic in Elkins, St. Louis, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Columbia, Md., retiring in 2000. She was a member of the Saint Patrick's Catholic Church at Coalton.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6-8 p.m. Friday. On Friday, at 7 p.m., at the funeral home, a wake service will be recited by the Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF. On Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, Mrs. Charny will be moved to the Saint Patrick's Catholic Church at Coalton, where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF will be the presider. Cremation will follow and a graveside service will be conducted at the St. Vincent Cemetery at Kingsville at a later date.
