Charles Earl Warner, 88, a resident of Harrisonburg, Va., passed away on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at Augusta Health.
Mr. Warner was born on Dec. 27, 1925, in Whitmier, and was the son of the late Adam Harness and Jessie Mae Elza Warner. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in Germany and the Normandy Conflict. He was a retired truck driver and security guard. Mr. Warner was an avid guitar player and loved to sing. He was a member of the Church of God.
On Oct. 14, 1949, he married the former Ruby Ellen Mowery, who survives.
Also surviving are seven children, Miriam Hedrick of Seneca Rocks; Kathryn Tipton and husband, John, of Norfolk, Va.; Ruth Miller and husband, William "Bill-Hoppy," of Timberville; Shirley Campbell and husband, Mark, of Elkton; Debra Warner of Harrisonburg, Va.; Melody White and husband, Billy, of Broadway; Douglas Warner and wife, Betty, of Fulks Run; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He also was survived by a special caregiver, Sherwin Summers.
Mr. Warner was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlotte Weatherholtz; two brothers, Gerald Warner, Warren Warner; a sister, Thelma Warner; a daughter-in-law, Martha Warner and a son-in-law, Larry Joe Hedrick.
Pastors Steven Estep and Millard Sonifrank will conduct a funeral service on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post 27.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
