ST. MARYS - The Elkins High boys cross country team finished second out of 16 teams at the Autumn Classic Invitational hosted at St. Mary's High School Saturday.
Elkins finished with 82 points, behind champion Bridgeport (61). Other team results include: Ripley 97, Fairmont Senior 170, St. Albans 175, Doddridge 101, Riverside 226, Brooke 253, Liberty 263, John Marshall 287, Robert C Byrd 288, Wheeling Central 302, Cameron 307, Paden City 308, Calhoun County 322, and Oak Glen 330.
In individual action, Elkins senior Matt Wallace took the lead from the firing of the gun and rolled to the win in a time of 17:23.6. Hunter Riffle of Doddridge County finished in 2nd place, with 17:35.6. Sophomore Dalton Hamrick picked up a 10th place finish to get on the podium with a time of 18:33. Other EHS finishers include Brendan Wallace in 24th (19:41), Mason Clark 26th (19:51), Ben Huffman 30th (20:18), Daniel Crawford 55th (21:28), Walter King 66th (21:49), Joseph Schmidlen 68th (21:53), Dominic Cunningham 86th (22:43), Jacob Lewis 105th (23:32), Jacob Earle 106th (23:35), and Devan Ricottilli 122nd (24:40) I the field of 152 runners.

In girls action the lady tigers finished fifth in the 15 team field with a score of 155. Bridgeport took the team title with a score of 79, followed by Shadyside 87, Oak Glen 91, Doddridge 131, St. Mary's 188, Liberty 191, Ripley 202, Wirt 257, St. Albans 261, Paden City 264, John Marshall 287, Weir 288, Wheeling Central 294, and Riverside 300.
Senior Hannah Gongola lead the charge for the lady tigers finishing 12th in a time of 24:07. Other lady tiger finishers include Monica Rossi 29th (25:25), Taylor Maynard 32nd (25:35), Kathlyne Simmons 55th (27:24), Leanna High 61st (27:59), and Cambrie Currence 113th (37:29), in the 118 runner field.
The Tigers will return to action next Saturday at the St. Mary's Medical Center XC Festival at Cabell Midland High School in Ona. Junior varsity boys will step off at 11:15 a.m., followed by the J.V. girls at 11:50 a.m., varsity boys at 12:30 p.m., and finally the varsity girls at 1:10 p.m.
