Charles Stanley, 90, passed away Aug. 23, 2014, while in hospice care at Heritage Woods in Gurnee, Ill.
His wife, Dora Bertelli Stanley, preceded him in death. They were long-time residents of Norton.
Mr. Stanley was a veteran of World War II and served in the 630th Engineer L.E. Co. in Europe. His unit built the Friendship Bridge in Magdeburg, Germany that linked U.S. and Russian soldiers. Upon discharge from the army, he worked as a mechanic. He retired from Newlon's International in 1989.
One son, Charles Stanley Jr. and his wife, Rachel, of Grayslake, Ill., survive him. His grandson, Sean and his wife, Megan, reside in Chicago as does his granddaughter, Sarah Stanley.
Mr. Stanley requested cremation and burial alongside his wife of 64 years in Mountain State Memorial Gardens.
