John Joseph Stark, 88, of Ravenswood, passed away Sept. 1, 2014, in Ravenswood.
He was born June 21, 1926, in Alum Bridge, a son of the late William C. and Bridget H. Sweeney Stark.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Stark; sisters, Mary Murray and Irene Bode; and daughter-in-law, Jeri Lynn Stark.
John graduated from Lewis County Schools and entered the U.S. Navy, serving in the Seabees in World War II. After the war, he was a shovel operator for Sam G. Poliono.
He married Eleanor Jean McGee, on Oct. 27, 1950; they moved to Ravenswood in 1966.
He retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood as a millwright and was the owner of his own garage for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Jean Stark of Ravenswood; children, Paul Michael and William P. Stark; grandchildren, Jason Michael and fiancee, Michelle, and Jenifer Brook Camarillo and husband, Cristian; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Mikey and Oliver; and sisters, Regina Quesenberry of Morgantown and Ernestine Gissy of Parkersburg.
Services will be conducted Thursday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Ravenswood with Father Penumaka Manikalarao officiating. Burial will follow in Ravenswood Cemetery with graveside military rites provided by Ravenswood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6669.
