Mary Ellen Zohner, 90, a resident of Elkins, passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, in Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center.
She was born Nov. 24, 1923, at Belington, a daughter of the late Howard James Allen and the late Ora Findley Allen.
She was twice married, first to Hartsell Chancy Winans, who preceded her in death and later to John Melvin Zohner.
Surviving are one son, Robert Winans and wife, Karen, of Elkins; and three daughters, Darlene Skidmore of Elkins, Faye Lothes and husband, Charles "Champ" Lothes, of Valley Bend and Cheryl Zohner of Navasota, Texas. One brother, Charles Allen of Buckhannon; grandchildren, Michelle Hammond and husband, Doug, Joni Sands, Marc Bryan and wife, Jessica, Kara Carpenter and husband, Steve, Robert Warner, Jonathan Zohner and Ashley Warner; great-grandchildren, Noah and J.D. Hammond, Morgan Sands, Christopher Bryan, Mia Bryan, Isabella Carpenter and Emma Carpenter, Hannah and Cole Carpenter and Brandon Warner; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Also preceding her in death were five brothers, William Allen, Harry "Pete" Allen, Freddie Allen, Elijah "Zeke" Allen and Columbus "Bud" Allen; and a grandson, Christopher Bryan.
Mrs. Zohner was employed in the dietary department at Davis Memorial Hospital prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church and the Holy Rosary Guild. She enjoyed camping and the outdoors, crocheting and ceramics and loved gardening and working in her flower beds at her home. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
At the request of the deceased, her remains were cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Elkins. The Very Rev. Father Donald X. Higgs will be the Presider, and interment of the cremains will follow in St. Brendan Cemetery.
