Center helps WV small businesses

CHARLESTON — The West Virginia Small Business Development Center (WV SBDC) joined other Centers across the country to celebrate SBDC Day on Wednesday, March 19. The event is led by America’s SBDC, representing the nation’s network of Small Business Development Centers.

SBDC Day recognizes the success of the country’s small businesses and the Small Business Development Centers that support them. In West Virginia, 99% of businesses are small, making a significant impact on the state’s economy.

“The West Virginia Small Business Development Center team achieved remarkable milestones last year and is poised to continue this success into the current year. What better way to celebrate our accomplishments from 2024 than on SBDC Day?” WV SBDC Director Will Miller said. “For over 40 years, the WV SBDC has supported small business owners in the Mountain State, helping them make significant progress. With such a dedicated team, we look forward to many more years of success.”

As part of the celebration, WV SBDC’s social media showcases their positive impact on the state’s small businesses and spotlights client success stories.

WV SBDC serves all 55 counties through 14 centers distributed across the state. The centers are staffed with WV SBDC business coaches, many of whom have been entrepreneurs. Since 2017, the WV SBDC has assisted with 793 new businesses, bringing 3,382 jobs created and a total capital infusion of $320,543,128. The WV SBDC has served 8,292 clients.

WV SBDC business coaches provide confidential one-on-one guidance in areas such as exporting, innovation, technology and economic development, finance, management, cybersecurity and marketing. Most coaches have attained Certified Business Advisor (CBA) certificates by completing graduate-level courses.

WV SBDC is an accredited partner program with the U.S. Small Business Administration and a division of the West Virginia Department of Economic Development, which helps small businesses at all stages of development by providing no cost one-on-one coaching and connecting clients with additional resources and programs.
