Meatball hoagie sale to benefit man who lost his sight

BEVERLY — The St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Guild of Coalton will host a meatball hoagie sale fundraiser on Sept. 27 at the Beverly Fire Department.

The hoagie sale will take place from 11 p.m to 2 p.m. All the money raised will help with medical bills for Randolph County resident Michael Ricottilli, a 38-year-old resident of Valley Bend who recently lost his vision in both eyes.

Ricottilli a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School, is a devoted husband and father, said Jim Rossi, a St. Patrick’s Guild member and the mayor of Coalton.

“The doctors aren’t sure what happened with Michael,” Rossi said. “So he’s having it pretty rough right now and he could use all the help we can get for him.”

Chips and a drink will be served with the hoagies, which will feature the St. Patrick’s Guild’s renowned meatballs and sauce. Hoagies will be available for dine-in, take-out, and delivery. Tickets will be available at the door and pre-orders, which are recommended, can be made by calling 304-636-3267.

“We are hoping we have a big turnout for the hoagie sale,” Rossi said. “We had a family member of Michael’s come to us about doing a fundraiser and we are happy to help out. We welcome any and all to come and join us. Everything we make is going to be with the St. Patrick’s recipe and everyone will get three large meatballs per hoagie, so they’re not short-changed. “

The St. Patrick;s Guild is no stranger to helping individuals and organizations in a time of need. Within the past year, the Guild has held fundraising events for Randolph County Commissioner Chris See, the Elkins High School football team, and the Randolph County Humane Society.

At one time, the meatball hoagie fundraiser was an annual event that the St. Patrick’s Guild did for the United Way.

“We have a nice crew of volunteers who help make these fundraisers possible,” Rossi said. “We do them through the church and this is our way of reaching out to people.”

The St. Patrick’s Guild also offers two major spaghetti dinners throughout the year that benefit the church. One typically takes place in the fall and the other in the spring.

“At our dinners, we serve between 1,000 and 1,110 people,” said Rossi. “We usually do around 2,500 meatball hoagies for the hoagie fundraisers. This one coming up, we are going to try and do around 2,700.”

Starting at $3.92/week.
