Man charged after Elkins armed robbery

Johnson

ELKINS — A man is behind bars after an alleged armed robbery that took place in Elkins Sunday.

Andre Llewelyn Johnson, 30, has been charged with armed robbery, nighttime burglary and conspiracy. He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.

On Sunday, Patrolman C.J. Elmore of the Elkins Police Department responded to 15th Street, where the alleged victim told police two men kicked her front door in, with one holding a gun to her head and another taking her wallet and other items, according to the criminal complaint.

Elmore wrote that the alleged victim was “very irate and having trouble breathing,” and noted that he radioed in and requested Randolph EMS to be present at the scene. Elmore noted that he filled out a statement form for the alleged victim because “she was unable to fill one out herself,” the complaint states.

Items stolen from the property included a backpack, an ID card, $800 in cash, medicine, a wallet, knives and credit/debit cards, the complaint states, adding that repairing the kicked-in door will cost $300.

On Oct. 1, Elmore was informed that another resident of the property had contacted Johnson on social media, according to the complaint. Johnson allegedly messaged the resident, saying, “tell the police it wasn’t me,” and “I can’t get out and about if I gotta hide from them, you know.”

Elmore wrote that, based on the messages, police believe Johnson was one of the two individuals who allegedly “committed violence by using the threat of deadly force for a robbery.”

Starting at $3.92/week.
