MABIE — The Mabie Post Office received significant structural damage when a vehicle struck the facility early Friday morning.

At approximately 7 a.m., the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Coalton Volunteer Fire Department and Randolph County Emergency Squad responded to a single-vehicle accident on Cassity Road.

Once on scene, deputies with the RCSO discovered that a Chevrolet Cobalt SS had hit the Mabie Post Office, causing one of the walls to cave in. The male driver of the vehicle, who was not identified, was traveling south on the Cassity Road when he lost control of the vehicle, police said.

“It looks like there is probably $50,000 to $60,000 damage done to the Post Office,” Randolph County Sheriff Rob Elbon told The Inter-Mountain. “One of the walls to the building was knocked out, it destroyed one portion of it. It knocked the whole corner out of it too. There were bricks scattered both inside and outside the structure.”

There were no charges made against the driver in relation to the accident. The driver, who told deputies he was on his way to pick someone up before heading to work, was transported to Davis Medical Center for injuries he suffered from the accident.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is handling the accident report. No further information was available at press time.
