Michael Ray ‘Mike’ Yoakum

YOAKUM

Michael Ray “Mike” Yoakum, 69, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Thursday evening, Sept. 19, 2024, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

He was born Monday, April 25, 1955, at Elkins, West Virginia, a son of the late Everett Yoakum and Mary R. Westfall Yoakum. On Nov. 29, 1975, at Elkins, West Virginia, he was married to his high school sweetheart, the former Lavada Jean Miller, who survives. They had celebrated 47 years of marriage.

Also surviving are one daughter, Angela Michelle Wickline and husband, Jason, of Elkins; one brother, Eugene Yoakum of Elkins; one sister, Margy Blankenship and husband, Paul, of Marlinton; and other surviving siblings, two granddaughters, Madison Grace and Sydney Paige Wickline; two mothers-in-law, Shirley Payne of Belington and Phyllis Miller of Florida; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry Lynn Payne and wife, Tammy, Jeff McLean, Deanna Williams and husband, Danny, Diane Kanyer and husband, Walter, and Larry Robertson and wife, Deborah; uncle, Austin Joe Godwin; cousins, Julia and Lauren Brumfield; dear friends, Sandy Brown and husband, John, their son, John Mark Brown and family; several nieces, nephews and cousins; a host of close friends; his biker buddies; his special neighbors; and his cat, “Bubba.”

He was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1974, had worked for Garden Fresh, Memorial General Hospital, Labcraft, Elkins Industries, drove truck for Tanner Lumber Company, W.V. Department of Highways and retired from the City of Elkins as a sanitation worker in 2021.

Mike enjoyed hunting and loved riding motorcycles. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, was very close with his family and adored his granddaughters.

Mike’s request for cremation was honored.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024, at noon, with Pastor Randy Montgomery officiating.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the charity of your choice.
