Belan fires in 32 as Lady Tigers beat Preston

Lady Bulldogs drop decision at Pendleton County; Lady Mountain Lions cruise to win over Hampshire

ELKINS — Maddie Belan fired in 31 points as Class AAA, No. 9 Elkins held off Preston, 54-51, Friday night at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

The Lady Tigers led 48-37 after three quarters but the Lady Knights held a 14-6 scoring edge in the final canto.

Elkins jumped out to an 18-11 advantage after one quarter and carried a 31-22 cushion into intermission.

Preston had three players score 12 points — Bella Miller, Kendra Nazelrod and Camdyn Sypolt.

The Lady Tigers (7-2) travel to Lewis County on Wednesday for another Big 10 contest..

FRANKLIN — Avery Townsend fired in 32 points as Pendleton County handed regional foe Tygarts Valley a 57-32 setback on Friday night.

Susan Vincell chipped in 12 for the Lady Wildcats, who jumped out to a 19-10 advantage after the first quarter and led 32-16 at halftime.

Alyssa Swecker had eight points for the Lady Bulldogs.

HAMBLETON — Raven Matthews and Mayah Gross each bucketed 17 points to lead Class A. No. 2 Tucker County to a 56-33 win over Hampshire on Friday evening.

The Lady Mountain Lions jumped out to a 33-18 halftime lead.

Della Knight had 16 points for the Lady Trojans.

Tucker County (8-2) visits Pendleton County on Tuesday.

Hampshire (6-5) travels to Moorefield the same evening.
