Bulldogs fall to Cougars in overtime clash
BAKER — It took overtime to decide the Class A clash between No. 5 Tygarts Valley and No. 4 East Hardy on Friday night.
The Cougars, however, overcame a 20-point deficit to get past the Bulldogs, 56-47.
Tygarts Valley held a 33-13 lead at halftime, before being outscored 13-0 in the third frame.
The contest entered the extra session deadlocked at 45-45 as the Bulldogs lost a five-point lead with 2 minutes remaining in regulation.
Jordan Teets led East Hardy (8-4) with 23 points — 18 coming after the intermission.
Joseph Price chipped in 14.
Jacob Wamsley had 15 points, eight rebounds and two assists for TV, while Parker Bell added 11 points, Kaden Moore nine points and 10 rebounds and Ian Harris and Avery Row-Sponaugle three assists each.
“Complacency and weariness are enemies for excellence and we fought with both demons the second half,” Bulldogs coach Tom Wamsley said. “Too many turnovers and poor defense killed us late in the fourth quarter.”
Tygarts Valley is now 8-2 and will host Union at approximately 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Pendleton 59, Petersburg 58
PETERSBURG — Pendleton County rallied in the fourth quarter to claim a 59-58 win over Petersburg on Saturday night.
The Wildcats trailed 41-37 after three quarters, but outscored the Vikings, 22-17, in the final frame.
Henry Warner had 19 points to pace Pendleton County, followed by Josiah Kimble with 13 and Chase Owens with 11.
Caden Ours had 19 points and Peyton Metheny 13 for Petersburg.
